How to Reapply Microsoft Site Server 3.0 SP2

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to reinstall or re-apply Microsoft Site Server 3.0 SP2, the following warning dialog occurs:

Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 2
This service pack is already installed.
It cannot be installed again unless it is first uninstalled.


CAUSE

Microsoft Site Server 3.0 SP2 is already installed.


WORKAROUND

In order to reinstall Site Server 3.0 SP2, you must modify the registry.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

1. Start the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:

Software\Microsoft\Site Server\3.0\Hotfix\Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 2\Installed
3. Change the VALUE of this key to 0.
