Err Msg: Web Server Cannot Find the File or Script You Asked For

SYMPTOMS

When you invoke Ad Server by typing http:\\computername\AdManager\Synchronize.asp in the Internet Explorer Address box, and you click the Refresh icon, the following URL and error message appears:

HTTP Error 404
404 Not Found
The Web server cannot find the file or script you asked for. Please check the URL to ensure that the path is correct.

Please contact the server's administrator if this problem persists.


CAUSE

The Ad Server application property is stored in the app_urlbase field ( as_application table) with blank spaces appended at the end.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.


WORKAROUND

In the Control Panel ODBC application, choose to configure the applicable SQL Server DSN. Uncheck the "Use ANSI Nulls, Paddings, and Warnings" check box.

Although this workaround resolves this particular problem, it may cause other problems because of the non-ANSI behavior.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
