Site Server 3.0 Analysis Fails to Complete Database Setup

SYMPTOMS

This article pertains to the installation of Site Server 3.0 on a computer running Windows NT 4.0, SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition. When you attempt to install Analysis, Database Setup returns an error stating that Analysis requires SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 4.


CAUSE

SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 4 cannot be installed on SQL Server 6.5 Enterprise Edition. There is a SQL Server 6.5 fix that you need to install before installing Analysis.


RESOLUTION



To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Download the fix archive file from one of the following FTP sites:
    ftp:\\ftp.microsoft.com\bussys\sql\transfer\sql318i.exe - Intel ftp:\\ftp.microsoft.com\bussys\sql\transfer\sql318a.exe - Alpha


  2. Copy the archive file into a temporary directory on your server.


  3. Extract files in this directory by running from a command prompt:
    (sql318a for Alpha)
    "sql318i -s6.50.318"


  4. Read the Readme.txt file for all remaining instructions to apply the fix. Be sure to follow all steps in this file. There are special instructions to apply this fix for SQL Server Enterprise Edition.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5.
