Optimizing Windows 95 Independent Client for Offline Use

SYMPTOMS

If you open a queue when the computer is booted offline, the process takes an exceptionally long time.

CAUSE

There is a bug in Microsoft Message Queue Server version 1.0 Independent Client for Windows 95 which involves remote procedure call (RPC) timeouts.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Message Queue Server Systems Management Server version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

You can create a dual boot configuration as a workaround for this problem.

To create a dual boot configuration on a computer running Windows 95, perform the following steps:

1. In Control Panel, double-click the System icon, and then click the

   Hardware Profiles tab.

2. Click the hardware profile that you are currently using, and then click
   Copy.

3. Type "No Network" in the To box, and then click OK.

4. Click the Device Manager tab.

5. Double-click Network Adapters and then double-click your network adapter

   card icon.

6. In the Device Usage box click to clear the "No Network" checkbox. This
   prevents the network drivers from loading when this profile is used.

7. Click OK and exit Control Panel.

8. Restart Windows 95. When Windows 95 restarts, you will be prompted to

   select the configuration to use. Select "No Network".

NOTE: Microsoft Message Queue Server Custom application messages must be set with MQMSG_DELIVERY_RECOVERABLE. This allows the messages to be written to disk and survive a memory re-cycle.
