Delayed Response to HTTPS Requests When Proxy 2.0 Runs over IIS 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a Web server through Proxy Server 2.0 installed on an Internet Information Server (IIS) 4.0 computer, the response to HTTPS requests is delayed by about one minute.

NOTE: This behavior is not reproducible when Proxy Server 2.0 is installed on an IIS 3.0 server.


CAUSE

Proxy Server makes a call to IIS to close a client connection. This call returns immediately in the case of IIS 3.0 but takes about a minute in the case of IIS 4.0. This causes the delay in servicing the new client requests.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Combined Hotfix by contacting Microsoft Product Support Services. The combined hotfix is described in the KB article below:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Proxy Server version 2.0.
