DOC: Corrections to Proxy Server 2.0 Unattended Install Document

ID: Q181413

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

The Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 documentation incorrectly lists the unattended setup installation options that are available. This document describes corrections to the "Installing Server Software/Running Unattended Server Setup" section of the Proxy Server 2.0 documentation.

NOTE: A file named Proxy.ini holds the configuration information that is used by server setup in unattended mode. It has no effect on the standard Proxy Server Setup program. If a value is not specified in this file, a default value is used.

All entries in the Section table of the Proxy.ini file should be preceded by "Proxy Setup."

For example:

[Install] should be [Proxy Setup Install]
[Client Access Config] should be [Proxy Setup Client Access Config]

The following settings are not listed in the Proxy Server 2.0 documentation:

Section: [Proxy Setup Client Access Config]
Setting: Set Browsers To Use Auto Config

If set to 1, the client Setup program configures the client computer?s
browser to use the Automatic Configuration URL feature. If set to 0,
the client Setup program will not alter the browser's current Auto-
Config settings. The default is 0.

Section: [Proxy Setup Client Access Config]
   Setting: Configuration URL

If the Set Browsers To Use Auto Config setting is set to 1, the client
Setup program configures client browsers to use the URL specified in
that field as the "Automatic Configuration URL". The default is the
automatic URL generated by Proxy Server.

The following section defines the behavior of the Automatic Client Configuration Script generated by the server in runtime.

Browsers can be configured to use Automatic Configuration in order to dynamically choose the best proxy available when accessing various Internet addresses. For more details, see the "Using a Client Configuration Script" section in the manual.

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
Setting: Bypass Proxy for Local Servers

If set to 1, the automatic script will access the addresses in the
local network directly, rather than via the proxy. The default is 1.

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
Setting: Enables Bypass Proxy on Addresses

If set to 1, the automatic script will not directly access the
addresses specified in the next item, rather than via the proxy. If set
to 0, the list will be ignored.

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
   Setting: Bypass Proxy on Addresses

A list of address ranges, which the automatic script will attempt to
access directly, rather than via the proxy. The format is:
   ip;mask;ip;mask...

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
Setting: Enables Bypass Proxy on Domains List

If set to 1 the automatic script will not directly access computers in
the domains specified in the next item, rather than via the proxy. If
set to 0, the list will be ignored.

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
Setting: Bypass Proxy on Domains List

A list of domains in which the automatic script will attempt to access
directly, rather than via the proxy. The format is: dom1;dom2;dom3...
   (for example, "abc.com;efg.com").

   Section: [Automatic Configuration Script]
   Setting: Backup Route

Sets the automatic script's behavior when a proxy is not responding.
This value can be set to "Direct," in which case the script will try to
access the Internet directly. Or it can be set to point to an alternate
proxy. In the latter case, the format is "proxy:port" (for example,
   "altprox:80").
