Proxy 2.0: The System Cannot Find the File Specified

SYMPTOMS

When browsing to an Internet site through the Microsoft Web Proxy Service running on a Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 computer, the browser may return an error message stating the system cannot find the file specified.


CAUSE

This error is caused by assigning a host header definition to the default Web site within Internet Information Server.


RESOLUTION

To correct this error, remove the host header from the default Web site by following these steps:

  1. Open the Microsoft Management Console.


  2. Select the default Web site, and on the Action menu, choose to view the properties.


  3. Click the Web Site tab, and click the Advanced button next to the IP Address line.


  4. Edit the Multiple Identities entry, and remove the host header listing.
