BUG: REGRESSION: Cluster: SQL Resource Longer to Take Offline

SYMPTOMS

When the SQL Server resource is taken offline, it can take over a minute before the resource actually goes offline. This may affect the amount of time it takes SQL Server to failover.


CAUSE

A change was made in the SQL Server resource to wait 60 seconds before checking to see if the resource is online or if a request has been made to take the resource offline.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server service pack that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.5 Service Pack 5 and 5a.
