SMS: Initial Logon Server Enumeration Slow w/Removable Media

SYMPTOMS

All domain controllers in the Systems Management Server site domain will be configured as Systems Management Server Logon Points by default. The Logon Server Manager (a thread of the Systems Management Server Executive service) determines the file system type and the amount of free disk space on all domain controller shares including those shares which correspond to removable media. This interrogation may take several minutes before timing out on these shares.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 2.0.

MORE INFORMATION

This will only occur the first time that the Systems Management Server Logon Server Manager service tries to configure a particular server because this is the only time it attempts to locate the drive with the most free space.
