SMS: RSERVICE Unable to Configure Service to Use the LocalSystem

SYMPTOMS

When using RSERVICE to install a service, you cannot configure the service to startup using the LocalSystem account.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, obtain the hotfix mentioned in the STATUS section of this article or wait for the next Systems Management Server service pack. The hotfix should have the following timestamp:

      7/31/98   8:43pm      207,456 Rservice.exe (Intel)
      7/31/98   8:41pm      594,192 Rservice.exe (Alpha)

NOTE: The argument /A has been added to RSERVICE to specify that the installed service is configured to use the LocalSystem account.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Systems Management Server version 1.2. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression- tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
