PRB: Catalog Error 80040154 Accessing MTS via MMC

SYMPTOMS

When accessing Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) via the MMC the following error occurs:

An error occurred accessing components in the System package on this computer. Error code was 80040154. Make sure that:

+ Microsoft Transaction Server is installed correctly.
+ If you have set a specific identity for the system package, check that the user account and password are correct, and user is a member of the local NT Administrators group.

The only option is an OK button that returns to the MMC.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by the catalog object not being registered correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, re-register the catalog object, Mtxcatex.dll, by running regsvr32.exe as in the following example:


regsvr32.exe C:\winnt\system32\mts\mtxcatex.dll

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
