PRB: DELETE Without FROM Clause Causes Errors in Oracle Driver

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to use the SQL DELETE statement without a FROM clause, you will receive the following error message:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle]Syntax error or access violation


RESOLUTION

If you are using the 2.0 drivers the FROM clause must be used in the DELETE statement in order to delete records from the table. Using the 2.5 Oracle ODBC driver corrects this problem. You may obtain the new 2.5 driver with Visual Studio 6.0, Data Access Data Access Software Development Kit (SDK) 2.0, or Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.0. You can download MDAC version 2.0 from the following Web address:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. The Microsoft Oracle ODBC driver version 2.5 (Build 2.573.2927) corrects this problem.
