ID: Q200219

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

For programs to function properly in Microsoft Windows NT Server, Terminal Server Edition, you must install them in Control Panel, using the Add/Remove Programs wizard. However, there are components (in Microsoft Exchange Server, for example) that you cannot install using this method.

For example, when you install the Internet Mail Service using the Exchange Server Administration program, the following error message is displayed:

Self registration of the DLL c:\NT path\profiles\Exchange Service Acct\windows\system32\cdonts.dll failed: 0d
After you click OK, the following error message is displayed:
Error Processing file 'C:\EXCHSRVR\BIN\cd0.ins', at or near line 7 The specified module could not be found
Microsoft Windows NT ID no: 0xc002007e
You must put Terminal Server in installation mode. At a command prompt, type:
change user /install
Then install the component (the Internet Mail Service, in this case).

After you install the component, be sure to put the Terminal Server back in execute mode. At the command prompt, type:
change user /execute
