XCLN: Error After Update.exe on Japanese Win16 Exchange Client if No Reboot

Microsoft Exchange Windows 3.x client, version 5.0 Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

When you update your Japanese Win16 Exchange client to version 5.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and you click Continue Without Restarting Windows, you receive the following error message:

EXCHNG caused a GPF in module Krnl386.exe at 0001:515c

WORKAROUND

When you update your Japanese Win16 Exchange client to version 5.0 SP1 using Update.exe, you must choose the option to reboot at the end of the update for the system to be updated successfully.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Exchange Windows 3.x client, version 5.0 Service Pack 1. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
