SimpleDateFormate.parse Function Fails on 2/29/00 for Year 2000

SYMPTOMS

You may notice the following error when a user inputs the date of 2/29/00 when using the SimpleDateFormat.parse function:

IllegalArgumentException 

RESOLUTION

To solve this problem, get the latest Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM) from the Microsoft download location at http://www.microsoft.com/java. This problem is resolve in all build versions of the Microsoft VM greater than build 3158.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
