XFOR: Error 502: Moderated Newsgroups Must Have Same Moderator

SYMPTOMS

The Internet News Server (INS) only allows postings from a moderated news group to the same group on another server as long as the moderators match. If the moderators do not match, you will get the following error message In the log: 

   502 Access Denied.

CAUSE

INN supports feeds from one server to the other with different moderators for the same news group; for example: 

Server 1       Server 2
Newsgroup      Newsgroup
Moderator 1    Moderator 2
Posting to server 1, approving with moderator 1, the posting will never get to Server 2 with the correct feeds set.

WORKAROUND

Remove the moderator on server2. This will allow the posting to proceed without getting the 502 error message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0.
