SYMPTOMS

This article applies to Microsoft Chat Server. Channel Service DLLs unable to do channel locks, because it cannot have its own thread pool. Instead it runs using worker threads that belong to the INETINFO.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

The problem only occurs when writing channel service extensions that require the use of worker threads to perform custom processing. Channel services that perform work on the server threads are not affected. The fix extends the IMicChannel service interface to permit channel services with worker threads to function without a deadlock.
