WD: How to Open MacWrite Files in Word 6.0, 6.0.1 for the Mac

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 6.0 and later do not ship with a converter to import Claris MacWrite files.

RESOLUTION

To open MacWrite files in Word 6.0 and later, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Save the MacWrite file in the Text Only format while in MacWrite. Note that formatting applied to the text is lost; however, this is the only format that MacWrite can export besides the MacWrite format.

Method 2

Use a third-party utility or service bureau to convert the MacWrite files. Listed below are vendors manufacturing conversion programs that convert MacWrite format files.
