This article describes how to create a Pop3.log file for Microsoft Outlook Express.

You can use the Pop3.log file to troubleshoot problems that may occur when you receive e-mail in Outlook Express using the Post Office Protocol (POP3).

To create a Pop3.log file, use the following steps:

  1. Start Outlook Express.


  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.


  3. On the Advanced tab, under Logging Options, click the Mail Transport check box to select it.


  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.


The Pop3.log file is created and stored in the C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\<username>\Mail folder, where <username> is your MSN Member ID.

For Windows 98, the Pop3.log file is created and stored in the C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail folder.

For Windows NT, the Pop3.log file is created and stored in the %Winnt%\Profiles\<Username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail folder.
