PRJ98: Project Stops Responding when Saving File

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you save a database (MPD or MDB) file in Microsoft Project (.MPP) format, you may receive the following error message:

Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to the following:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at 0137:302b54dc.

Windows NT

An Application Error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

Exception access violation (oxc0000005), Address:ox300429ob


CAUSE

This error occurs when all of the following are true:


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, copy the toolbars from the database file into the global template, delete the toolbars from the database file, and then save the file in the MPP format. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Organizer.


  2. Click the Toolbars tab.


  3. Click one of the toolbars listed on the right side of the dialog box.


  4. Click Copy.


  5. Click Delete.


  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each toolbar you want to move.


  7. Click Close.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
