SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you run Setup and choose the Reinstall option, shortcuts to Microsoft Project may be removed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you are running Microsoft Project from a network server.

WORKAROUND

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

To work around this problem, create a new shortcut to Microsoft Project on the network server. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar.

  2. In the Taskbar Properties dialog box, click the Start Menu Programs tab.

  3. Under Customize Start Menu, click Add.

  4. Type the path to Winproj.exe located on the network server, or click Browse to search for the location.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select the folder to place the shortcut in. The default is in Programs.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Change the name of the shortcut if you prefer, and click Finish.
