PRJ98: Project Stops Responding When Sharing Resources

The information in this article applies to:


SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you choose to share resources from another project, you may receive one of the following error messages.

Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the Problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive the following error:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at <address>.

Windows NT

An Application Error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

Winproj.exe Exception access Violation (oxc0000005), Address: <address>


CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do all of the following in a project:

  1. Add an object to a resource.


  2. Delete that resource.


  3. Save, close, and then reopen the project.


  4. You choose to share resources from another project.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
