PRJ98: Error Assigning Resource to Fixed Duration Task

The information in this article applies to:


SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you assign a resource to a task, you may receive the following message:

Message 1

Microsoft Project cannot create an assignment with a specific unit value on a fixed duration, effort-driven task.

Once the assignment is created, you can edit the unit value on the assignment.
Followed by one of the following messages (Message 2):

On Microsoft Windows 95

This Program has preformed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you receive the following error:
WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at <address>.

On Microsoft Windows NT

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

WINPROJ.EXE
Exception access violation (oxc0000005), Address <address>


CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you have the following conditions:


RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).

NOTE: Message 1 in the Symptoms section is an expected message for the conditions listed in the Cause section, Message 2 is not expected and is resolved in Project 98 SR-1.


STATUS

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
