SYMPTOMS

When the Windows Media Server has many clients connecting to a Broadcast Publishing Point that gets its source from a Unicast Publishing Point, new clients connecting with the MMS protocol to the Broadcast Publishing Point can still connect to the publishing point, but cannot play the stream.

The playing clients that were originally connected fail to replay. Windows Media Player reports no errors and the status bar displays the status as "Playing," but the timer remains at 0:00. However, HTTP clients can connect and play without any problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Services version 4.0.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur when the Broadcast Publishing Point has a source of a local or remote distribution (MSBD) stream.
