SYMPTOMS

When you try to encode live content with the Windows Media Encoder version 3.0 or 4.0, the following error message occurs:

The audio device does not support PCM capture at the sampling rate requested.


CAUSE

This error can occur if you have an 8-bit sound card installed or have the sound card driver installed incorrectly.


MORE INFORMATION

The Windows Media Encoder only supports 16-bit audio formats; 8-bit sound cards do not support this format. If your sound card is 16 bits or greater, you may not have the sound card driver installed correctly, or you may not have the correct sound card driver.
