Installing NetShow May Disable VXtreme

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft NetShow 3.0 Tools, or the NetShow Adobe plugin, the Vxtreme client may no longer function.

CAUSE

NetShow installs a later version of a Voxware codec that is common between both VXtreme and NetShow. The filename has changed between versions from Vdk32118.dll to Vdk3216.dll.

This problem occurs because the NetShow Setup program performs a file cleanup, removing the old Vdk32118.dll file from the filesystem. Because the VXtreme client is designed to use the new filename, the VXtreme client does not function because the file is unavailable.

WORKAROUND

The resolve this issue, reinstall the VXtreme client so that the old Vdk32118.dll file is reinstalled.
