ACC2000: Contents of Rich TextBox Control Not Viewable in Report

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and a Microsoft Access project (.adp).


SYMPTOMS

You cannot see the contents of an embedded Microsoft Rich TextBox ActiveX Control when you Print Preview a report.


RESOLUTION

FMS, Inc. has a RichText control available that does not result in the behavior described in this article. The control is available as part of their "Total Access Memo" product. For more information, visit the FMS, Inc. Web site at http://www.fmsinc.com.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.


  2. In the Database window, click Reports under Objects, and then click New. In the New Report dialog box, click Design View. In the Choose the table or query where the object's data comes from box, select Employees, and then click OK.


  3. On the Insert menu, click ActiveX Control. Select Microsoft Rich TextBox Control, version 6.0, and then click OK.


  4. If the Properties window is not visible, on the View menu click Properties. On the Data tab, select Notes from the ControlSource box.


  5. Preview the report.

    Note that you receive the following alert, and then the report will come up blank:

NOTE: This problem does not occur when you use the Microsoft Rich TextBox control on a form or data access page.
