OFF98: Collapsed Document Window Reopens When Toolbar Is Moved

ID: Q186766

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you undock or display a toolbar in any of the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs, the document window may be expanded if it was previously collapsed (using WindowShade under System 7.x or the Collapsing Windows option in the Appearance control panel under Mac OS 8.x).

CAUSE

Your document window may be expanded when the toolbar you are undocking or displaying causes the available space for your document window to change (increase or decrease in size). To see an example of this problem, please see the "More Information" section in this article.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To see an example of this problem, follow these steps:

1. Start Microsoft Excel.

2. If you are using System 7.x, close the Office Assistant window if it is

   visible.

3. Click the Zoom box (in the upper-right corner of the window) on the
   workbook window.

This step maximizes the one workbook that is opened by default in
   Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

4. Double-click the title bar of the workbook.

The workbook window is collapsed so that only the title bar is
displayed. If this behavior does not occur, please review your Macintosh
system Help file for information about turning on this feature.

5. Double-click the vertical band on the leftmost side of the Standard
   toolbar.

This step undocks the Standard toolbar but also expands the workbook window.

Similar steps cause the behavior to occur in the other Office programs.
