XL: Error or Options Dialog Box Does Not Appear

SYMPTOMS

The following problems may occur:

When you click Options on the Tools menu, the dialog box does not appear.

-or-

When you insert a module sheet, you may receive the following error message:

VBA English/Standard (VBAEN.OLB) object library not found.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when either of the following conditions are true:

The Vba.ini file is missing.

-or-

There is a corrupted global setting in the Options dialog box.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the method appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Microsoft Excel 7.0 Running Under Windows 95

Quit Microsoft Excel.

Click Start, and click Run.

Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

Find the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Excel\7.0\Microsoft Excel

Select each key that starts with "Options" and click Delete on the Edit menu.

Method 2: Microsoft Excel 5.0 Running Under Windows 3.1

Rebuild the Windows registry (Reg.dat). To do this, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

-or-

Quit Microsoft Excel if it is running. In File Manager, rename the following files

Windows\System\Vba*.*
Windows\System\Vba*.bak
Excel\Xlen50.olb
Excel\xlen50.bak

and then reinstall Microsoft Excel.

-or-

In File Manager, look for the Vba.ini file in the Windows directory. If it is missing, click Run on the File menu. Type "regedit /v[ASCII 148] (without the quotation marks) and click OK. You must manually enter the following section in the Windows registry:

1.0 = Visual Basic for Applications

To find the correct information, look at the registry on a computer that is working. Type in the section the way it appears on the working computer.

Method 3: Microsoft Excel 5.0 Running Under Windows 95

Quit Microsoft Excel if it is running.

Find a computer that is working.

Click Start, and click Run.

Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

Find the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{000204F3-0000-0000-C000-
000000000046}\1.0\9\win16 @="C:\\WIN95\\SYSTEM\\VBAEN.OLB"

On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.

Type a file name and click OK.

Go to the computer that is not working.

Click Start, and click Run.

Type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

On the Registry menu, click Import Registry File and import the file created in step 6.

Method 4: Microsoft Excel Version 5.0 for the Macintosh

Remove the following files


   Visual Basic for Applications Preferences
   Microsoft Excel Settings (5)
   PPC Registration Database
   Registration Database,

and then restart the Macintosh.
