XL97: Euro Symbols Deleted After File Saved in Excel 98

SYMPTOMS

When you open a file in Microsoft Excel for Windows, all occurrences of the euro currency symbol have been replaced with an underscore character (_).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you save the file in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

When you open an Excel for Windows file that contains the euro symbol in Excel 98, you receive an error message, and all occurrences of the Euro symbol are replaced by the underscore character.
