An application error has occurred and an application error log is
being generated.
Excel.exe
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x006f0066.
These problems occur if you click Options on the Tools menu, click the General tab, and then specify a file path that exceeds 56 characters in length in the Alternate Startup File Location box or the Default File Location box.
To correct this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
To temporarily work around this problem, reset the default Microsoft Excel settings and use a shorter file path. To do this, follow these steps.
NOTE: The following steps will reset all Microsoft Excel settings. To avoid this, install Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
1. Close Microsoft Excel.
2. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type the following:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe /unregserver
NOTE: If you have installed Microsoft Office 97 to another location, use
your correct path for Excel.exe instead.
4. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type the following:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe /regserver
You will now be able to access the Options command from the Tools menu.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 97. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 2 (SR-2).
