FP1: Could Not Make Connection Error Starting FrontPage

SUMMARY


SYMPTOMS

When you start FrontPage Editor or FrontPage Explorer, you receive the following message:

Could not make connection to the FrontPage Editor (or FrontPage Explorer). Please try to start the FrontPage Editor (or FrontPage Explorer) from the Finder.

The command could not be completed, because there is not enough memory available. Closing windows or quitting application programs can make more memory available.


WORKAROUND

If you receive this error message, follow these steps:

  1. Check Virtual Memory on the computer. Note that you can use Ram Doubler 1.5 or higher as a Virtual Memory substitute.


  2. Verify that all required components are available. To use Microsoft FrontPage 1.0, you need the following components:



  3. Verify that all required FrontPage Extensions and Preferences files exist. You should have the following files installed on your computer:

    NOTE: If you are troubleshooting the "Cannot connect to FrontPage Editor (or FrontPage Explorer)" error, completely uninstall FrontPage. After you uninstall FrontPage, remove the extensions and preferences files listed above and then reinstall FrontPage. After reinstalling FrontPage start FrontPage Editor only. This will recreate the Preferences files.
