FP1: FP Explorer Can't See File if First Character is a Period

SYMPTOMS

If you use the Finder and rename a file in a FrontPage Web so that the file name starts with a period ("."), the file will not appear in FrontPage Explorer.

CAUSE

FrontPage Explorer does not recognize the period character as a valid first character of a file name.

RESOLUTION

Rename the file so that it starts with a character other than a period.

1. Open the folder that contains your Web.

2. Select the file that you want to rename.

3. Rest the pointer over the file name until it changes to an I-beam pointer.

4. Click at the beginning of the file name and delete the period character.

   Press RETURN to change the file name.

5. Start or switch to FrontPage Explorer and open your Web. On the Tools menu,
   click Recalculate Hyperlinks.

6. If you are prompted to confirm the hyperlink recalculation, click Yes.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
