FP2000: Cannot Preview an Internet Web Page That Uses a Client-Side Redirect Script

SYMPTOMS

When you preview a web page on the Internet that includes a client-side redirect script, you may receive one of the following errors messages.

Using Internet Explorer 4 to Preview a Page Disk Based Web:

Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site c:\filename.htm "The system cannot find the file specified".

Using Internet Explorer 5 to Preview a Page Disk Based Web:

The page cannot be displayed. Cannot find server or DNS Error

Using Internet Explorer 4 or 5 to Preview a Page in a Server Based Web:

HTTP 404 Not Found The Web server cannot find the file or script you asked for. Please check the URL to ensure that the path is correct. Please contact the server's administrator if this problem exists.


CAUSE

When you use the Preview feature in Microsoft FrontPage, the link to the redirected page is not followed.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
