Use one of the following methods to resolve this behavior and use the auto thumbnail feature:

If you do not have an image selected, follow these steps to use the auto thumbnail feature:
  1. If you already have an image on the page, go to step 4.

  2. On the Insert menu, click Image.

  3. Select an image and click OK.

  4. Select the image and click Auto Thumbnail on the Tools menu.

Method 2: If you have an image selected

If your image is selected and the Auto Thumbnail command on the Tools menu is not available, set the auto thumbnail size so that it is smaller than the image you want to use. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the image and click Image Properties on the menu that appears.

  2. Click the Appearance tab. Note the image width (in pixels).

  3. Click OK.
