XFOR: IMC Will Not Start With Event ID 4087

SYMPTOMS

The Internet Mail Connector fails (IMC) to start and the event viewer indicates the following: 

   ID:     4087
   Source: MSExchangeIMC
   Type:   Error
   Service could not be started. Queue viewing interface could not be
   registered

CAUSE

Mac Services or SNMP can cause this error, which occurs when you run Microsoft Exchange Server on a Windows NT 4.x server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, verify that the installation of Windows NT was a clean install, not an install over a beta version. Remove Mac Services and/or SNMP. If there are any Windows NT 4.x service packs installed reapply the service pack and reboot. At this point the IMC should start without Event Id 4087. You can then install MAC services and/or SNMP.

NOTE: In rare instances this will still not work and the network protocols will need to be removed and reinstalled.
