This article describes how to upgrade from Microsoft Personal Web Server (MSPWS) version 1.0 or 1.0a to MSPWS version 4.0. This article also describes some concerns specific to FrontPage authoring on the new web server.

Installing MSPWS version 4.0

After you download the MSPWS file, follow these steps to install MSPWS version 4.0:
  1. Double-click the MSPWS Setup.exe file.


  2. Because Winsock 2.0 will be installed on your computer, you will be prompted to restart your computer when the Setup program has finished. Click Yes.


  3. If you are prompted to remove the FTP service after Windows restarts, click OK.


  4. Click Next.


  5. Read the license agreement and click Accept.


  6. Click Upgrade Only. NOTE: You can add additional components and functionality later by double-clicking the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel.


  7. MSPWS version 4.0 files will be copied to your computer. Click Finish.


  8. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
