SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install Microsoft Office 95 on a computer running Windows NT 3.5 or 3.51 with a 4.1 GB volume, Office Setup may report that there is not enough free drive space to run setup.

CAUSE

The Office 95 Setup program calculates the free space of the volume as a 32-bit integer. This causes the integer to wrap around when the volume size is larger than 4.099 GB in size. When the integer wraps around, the free space of the volume is reported to be smaller than the actual space available. The reported space will be the difference between 4.099 GB and the actual space available on the volume.

This problem may occur again at the 8.2 GB mark.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, copy enough data to the drive to get the actual free space below the 4.099GB mark. Office Setup will report the free space correctly and allow you to complete the setup.

-or-
Repartition the drive to have partitions less than 4.099 in size.
