OFF2000: Error Message "An error occurred while trying to create the file."

ERROR MESSAGE

When you create a new document as the target of a hyperlink, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred while trying to create the file.

NOTE: If you reached this article by clicking the Web Info button in an error message, you already have Customizable Alerts enabled.

CAUSE

You may receive this error message when you attempt to create a new document from the Edit Hyperlink dialog box if the file name contains an at sign (@). If you type an at sign in the Name of new document box in the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, Office will automatically convert it to an email hyperlink. When you click OK, you will receive this error message.

WHAT TO TRY

Specify a file name that does not use the at sign (@).
