OFF2000: "Error applying transforms" When Running Setup from a Hyperlink

SYMPTOMS

When you run Office Setup, the following error message appears:

Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You started Office Setup by clicking a hyperlink on a Web page.


-and-


• The Setup.ini file refers to a transform created by the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW).


-and-


• The reference to the transform in the Setup.ini file is not fully qualified.

WORKAROUND

Fully qualify the reference to the transform in the Setup.ini file. For example, if the computer that you are installing Office from is named Server1, and the share that contains Office is named Off2000, the [MST] section in your Setup.ini file should look like the following:

[MST]
MST1=\\Server1\Off2000\Myscript.mst

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
