OFF2000: Canceling Setup While Removing Office Breaks Clip Art Gallery

SYMPTOMS

When you click Cancel while running the Setup program to remove Office, Microsoft Clip Art Gallery may stop functioning properly and no pictures appear in the Clip Art Gallery.


CAUSE

This problem is caused by the Automatic Recovery feature of the Windows Installer program. Canceling Setup for Office (Disc 1) during the latter portion of the removal process may cause the Clip Art catalogs to become unregistered.


RESOLUTION

To correct this problem run the Microsoft Office 2000 Detect and Repair Utility.

To run the utility, follow these steps:

  1. Insert the Office 2000 CD Disc 1 in the CD-ROM drive.


  2. Quit all Office programs. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.


  3. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


  4. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click to select Microsoft <Office 2000 product>

    where <Office 2000 product> is the name of the specific Office product being used.


  5. Click Repair Office.


  6. Click to select Repair errors in my Office installation, and click to select Restore my shortcuts.


  7. Click Finish to complete the repair.



STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
