OFF2000: Error Message "The text <text string> is not valid"

ERROR MESSAGE

When you search for text within documents using either the Find command in the Open dialog box of Office programs or the Search Web Folders feature for Office Server Extensions (OSE), the following error message occurs

The text <text string> is not valid. Check that you typed it correctly.
where <text string> contains the characters you are searching for.

NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. CAUSE

This error will occur when you search for text within documents and your search text contains any combination of the following ASCII characters:


   !@#$%^&*(){}[]\| 


WHAT TO TRY

When searching for text in documents, do not include the characters listed above. Because these characters are not acceptable search text, they will be ignored when included with alphanumeric text strings.
