OFF2000: Invalid Page Fault in AOL After Installing Microsoft Office 2000

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office 2000 and attempt to launch America Online, the following error message may be displayed:

WAOL caused an invalid page fault in module msvcrt.dll at 015f:78001230.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the following conditions are true:

You have installed America Online Preview Version. This Preview version shipped with Microsoft Windows 98.

-and-

The version of msvcrt.dll that AOL installs is overwritten, during the installation of Microsoft Office 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Obtain and install an updated version of America Online.

-or-

Use the Microsoft System File Checker tool to restore the original Windows 98 version of msvcrt.dll.
