OFF2000: Office 95 OSB Displayed After Office 2000 Installation

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade to Microsoft Office 2000 from Office for Windows 95, the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar from Office 2000 is not displayed. Instead, the Office Shortcut Bar (OSB) from Office for Windows 95 is displayed, and the buttons may not function properly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You are running the Office Shortcut Bar in Office for Windows 95.

• You upgrade to Office 2000.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Taskbar.



2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab.



3. Click Remove.



4. Expand the Startup group and click to select Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar. Click Remove. Click Yes to confirm sending the shortcut to the Recycle Bin. This file is associated with Office for Windows 95.



5. Click Close.



6. Click OK.



7. Restart the computer.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
