OFF2000: Setup Switch /q or /qb Required on NT

SYMPTOMS

When you run Office 2000 setup, you may receive the following alert:

Microsoft Office 2000 has been advertised on your computer by the system administrator. To install Microsoft Office 2000, run Setup with the /q or /qb command-line option. Contact your system administrator for more information.

When you click OK to the alert, you receive the following alert:
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.


CAUSE

You will receive this error message if the following conditions are true:


RESOLUTION

In any of these situations, you are prompted to run setup using either the /q or the /qb switch. For example, you can use a command-line similar to the following:

<path>\setup /qb
However, you can also run setup successfully using the /qn combination, which is not mentioned in the alert message.

NOTE: You will receive the first alert previously listed if you try to use the /qr switch combination.

If you are using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and you have all of the following installed:

You do not need to run Office 2000 setup if your system administrator installed Office 2000 using the /jm switch combination. In this configuration, the Office 2000 shortcuts are already installed onto the Programs menu. When you click any one of these shortcuts, the program will automatically be installed for you.
