OFF2000: Error Message "This installation is forbidden ..." Running Setup

SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup for Office, you may receive the following error:

This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

You may receive this error if all of the following are true:

• You have the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy enabled.


-and-


• The location from which you installed Office is not available.


-and-


• In Windows Explorer, you located another source of Office 2000 files on your network.


-and-


• You launched Setup.exe from the alternate source location.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not use the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy.

The Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy prevents you from using any Office source locations other than that from which you originally ran setup (or specified by the SOURCELIST property during setup).
