SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the Paradox ODBC driver using the Data Access Pack, Microsoft Data Access Pack Setup lists the driver as "Installed." If you uninstall the driver and then attempt to reinstall the driver, the Microsoft Data Access Pack Setup will still list the driver as "Installed."

CAUSE

This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

When you uninstall the 3rd-party program, it may leave files and registry entries pertaining to ODBC that can conflict with the installation of the Data Access Pack.

WORKAROUND

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To correct this problem so that you will be able to install the Paradox ODBC driver from the Data Access Pack, follow these steps:

  1. On the Start menu, click Run. In the Open box, type regedit. Click OK.

  2. In the left pane, click the plus signs (+) to the left of the following items (in order):

             HKEY_CURRENT_USER
             Software
             ODBC
             ODBC.INI

  3. In the left pane, click the Paradox Files key to select it. In the right pane, click Driver to select it. On the Edit menu, click Modify.

  4. In the Edit String dialog box, ensure the Value Data box contains the following path:

Under Windows 95 or Windows 98:

             C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\odbcjt32.dll

    Under Windows NT:

             C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\odbcjt32.dll

NOTE: If you have installed Windows 95, 98, or NT into a folder other than the default, you will need to adjust the path statements listed in step four to match the folder names where you installed your operating system.

  5. Click OK. On the Registry menu, click Exit.
