XFOR: Mail Can't Be Sent Over IMC if Out Folder Missing

SUMMARY

When the Out folder under %exchange_root%\Imcdata is deleted, any attempt to send messages over the Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Connector (IMC) will fail with a message similar to the following in the Windows NT Event Log:

EVENT ID: 3022
TYPE: Warning
SOURCE: MSExchangeIMC
CATEGORY: Message Transfer

DESCRIPTION: The following message was not delivered because the local recipient could not be set. A non-delivery report was sent for this message. From: "original user's display name" Subject: "subject of the message" Submit Time "time the message was submitted".
The non-delivery report (NDR) associated with this error that is sent to the sender of the original message is similar to:
To: "recipient that sent message"
From: System Administrator
Time: "time of the NDR"
Subject: Undeliverable! "subject of original message"

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:"subject of original message"
Sent:"time the original message was sent"

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

"root@domain.com" on "time of the NDR"
Unable to deliver the message due to a communications failure
[MSEXCH:IMC:Microsoft:Millenium:MILLENIUM]


MORE INFORMATION

The Out folder is not protected and it can be deleted while the IMC is running. However, if this folder does not exist when the IMC starts, the IMC will create it.
