SYMPTOMS

When you click a MailTo hyperlink in a Microsoft Office document, two e-mail message windows open.

To keep the Mailto link from opening two e-mail messages, delete the CLSID registry entry from the MailTo subkey.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it.

To remove the CLSID entry from the Mailto registry subkey, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.


  2. Type regedit and then click OK.


  3. In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate and click to select the following registry subkey (folder):
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Protocols\Handler\Mailto 


  4. In the right pane of the Registry Editor, click to select CLSID.


  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.


  6. On the Registry menu, click Exit to close the registry editor.
