OL97: ErrMsg: Cannot Find the File "Outlook /cleanreminders"

SYMPTOMS

When you use a command-line switch to control what happens when you start Microsoft Outlook, you may receive an error message such as:

   Cannot find the file "Outlook /cleanreminders" (or one of its
   components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all
   required libraries are available.

CAUSE

The command-line switch is included in the path and enclosed within quotation marks.

To use command-line switches, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

1. In Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation 4.0, use the right mouse button

   to click the Microsoft Outlook shortcut, click Properties, and then
   click the Shortcut tab.

   In Windows NT Workstation 3.51, click the Microsoft Outlook icon, and
   then click Properties on the File menu.

   after the path to Outlook, and then type the command-line switch.

   NOTE: If any path listed in the Target box (or Command Line box)
   contains spaces, such as C:\Program Files, you must enclose the path
   in quotation marks and use the correct case for each character in the
   path. The command-line switch must be typed outside the quotation mark.

   NOTE: After you use the command-line switch to start Outlook, repeat
   these steps, but remove the switch and the space after the path.

Method 2

If you used the software patch to replace the Microsoft Exchange Client Inbox on the Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation 4.0 desktop with an Outlook shortcut and no longer have the client icon, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start, and click Run.

2. In the Open box, type:

      Outlook /cleanreminders

   There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).

   NOTE: The advantage of this method is that you do not have to go back
   and remove the command-line switch from the path of the shortcut.

Method 3

If you have Windows NT Workstation 3.51 and do not want to modify the Outlook shortcut properties, follow these steps:

1. In Program Manager, click Run on the File menu.

2. Click Browse.

3. Double-click the Outlook executable file.

   NOTE: The default location of the Outlook executable file is
   C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe

   NOTE: If the path contains spaces, you must enclose the path in
   quotation marks and use the correct case for each character in the path.
   The command-line switch must be typed outside the quotation mark.

   NOTE: The advantage of this method is that you do not have to go back
   and remove the command-line switch from the path of the shortcut.
